Alan is a lawyer with more than fifteen years’ experience in corporate and other disputes, bankruptcy and international commercial arbitration.
Alan is an expert on the Russian law issues in the High Court of Justice.
Throughout his career Alan successfully represents clients in disputes involving multiple jurisdictions, coordinates foreign lawyers, takes part in litigations in Russian and foreign courts and in international commercial arbitrations.

Alan has a PhD in jurisprudence and has authored a number of publications, including a book on interpretation of contracts. Alan is a member of the Expert Council for the Improvement of the Bankruptcy Legislation under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

Alan’s book on interpretation of contracts was published by the Statute Publishing House.

Alan is included in the Arbitration Powerlist from The Legal 500. He was also recommended in the field of international dispute resolution according to Kommersant.

Projects
  • Representing one of the largest Russian investment companies in Austrian state courts in cooperation with Austrian law firms as well as in Russian state courts on disputes arising out of a corporate conflict between former shareholders of a large Russian construction company. The corporate conflict was connected to an illegal deprivation of shares worth approximately RUB 15 billion from the client.
  • Representing an investment company and heirs of a co-owner of a large company in a corporate conflict concerning unwillingness of other co-owners to pay the heirs the sum of shares in the amount of RUB 1 billion.
  • Representing the co-owner of a company that owns expensive real estate in the historical center of Moscow (value of USD 7.5 million) in a corporate conflict
  • Representing a state fund registered in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in bankruptcy proceedings with a number of developers.
  • Representing a large investment company implementing investment projects in Russia's regions in a dispute on bringing to vicarious liability in the amount of RUB 20 billion.
  • Representing a client in a personal bankruptcy of a major Bashkir entrepreneur.
  • Representing one of the largest Russian investment companies in proceedings on the damages claim of a non-governmental fund. Successfully defended the client’s interests in Moscow courts of three instances. The fund was represented by Deposit Insurance Agency. The amount in dispute was approximately RUB 200 million.
  • Participating in a “separate” dispute in the largest bankruptcy case in Russian history – the bankruptcy of a Russian airline.
  • Representing a company specializing in theme parks for children and its beneficiary in negotiations with large creditors, as well as in Russian Arbitrazh courts and courts of general jurisdiction in disputes on debt collection. As part of the project, we managed settlement agreement with the creditors on restructuring the client's debt, reducing the debt burden by several million dollars (more than 65 percent of the total amount of creditors' claims), this agreement allowed the client to avoid bankruptcy.
  • Representing a Russian businessman in a dispute in the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). The claimant asked for recovery of losses caused by breach of an option agreement against a majority shareholder of a large Russian transport business. The amount in dispute was approximately USD 50 million.
  • Preparation of legal opinions on issues of Russian law for proceedings in the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the London High Court of Justice in a dispute involving recovery of damages from former executives and beneficiaries of one of the largest Russian banks.
  • Preparation of legal opinions on issues of Russian law for proceedings in state courts of Monaco and France in a dispute involving debt recovery from one of the Russian largest bank’s debtors.
  • Representing one of the largest Kazakh companies involved in extraction and processing of iron ores in a group of disputes related to vindication of components of an electric heat carrier worth more than 70 million rubles given by the contractor to his subcontractors.
  • Representing a large Kazakh mining and metallurgical company in a dispute over the claim of an advance payment paid under a terminated contract in the amount of USD 400 thousand.
  • Representing a large Russian energy company together with foreign consultants in the Cyprus courts in a case for recovery of about US $ 20 million damages caused by former beneficiaries and former management of the company as a result of the illegal transfer of assets to offshore jurisdictions.
  • Representing the owner of a business center in Moscow in a case concerning the dissemination of defamatory information, recovery of losses and reputational damage from distributors of defamatory information.
  • Representing a major investment company implementing investment projects in Russian regions in a major dispute with a contractor in the Arbitrazh Court of the Moscow Area, relating to construction of a bridge in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. Successfully represented the client’s interests in a number of court proceedings, including proceedings on a revision of judicial acts based on newly discovered circumstances, in the Arbitrazh courts of the Moscow District The amount in dispute was approximately RUB 2 billion.
  • Representing a minority shareholder’s interests in a corporate conflict in a pharmaceutical company violated by withdrawal of assets and dilution of shares. Developed and implemented a defence strategy that comprised criminal and civil law aspects.
  • Preparation of a legal opinion and development of a strategy for a large Kazakh bank on the issue of collecting large debts of a Russian entrepreneur and foreclosing on his assets in Russia and abroad.
  • Representing a client in a bankruptcy dispute over challenging of a transaction in the amount of approximately RUB 1.7 billion. Managed to win the case in the court of first instance, preventing invalidation of the transaction.
  • Development and implementation of a strategy to protect the interests of the shareholder of the largest Russian Internet retailer who applied to the LCIA with a claim against the majority shareholder to buy out the shares.
  • Protecting the interests of a new shareholder of a public IT holding in a corporate conflict. Recovery of damages, challenging the transactions, changing unfriendly governing bodies in subsidiary structures, bringing the former management to liability.
  • Representing the interests of a minority shareholder of a large Russian agricultural holding in courts. Submission of claims to exclude the majority shareholder from the group companies in connection with gross violations of the corporate governance standards.
  • Development and implementation of a strategy for gaining control in the largest ceramic tile manufacturing company. Protecting the interests of the Client in Russian courts and foreign arbitrations, accompanying bankruptcy procedures, structuring a settlement agreement governed by English law.
  • Search and return of assets stolen from a Czech state bank. Enforcement of collateral, litigation on the valuation of collateral items, recovery of damages caused because of the reorganisation of the borrower conducted in violation of the interests of the Client.
  • Search and return of assets stolen from a Latvian state bank. Enforcement of collateral, litigation over the valuation of collateral, participation in the bankruptcy procedure of the borrower and guarantor, introduction of interim measures in Russia in the form of the freezing of all of the borrower's assets in support of the Latvian arbitration proceedings.
  • Development and implementation of a strategy for a systemically important Russian bank to recover debts from a person who hid assets in the United Arab Emirates. Search for assets and development of a legal position on recognition and enforcement of decisions of Russian courts in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Representing the interests of the Government of Moscow in a dispute with a private investor in the ICAC at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation related to an investment contract.
  • Representing the interests of an Austrian skier in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014.
  • Representation of an Australian company in a dispute with a Russian state-owned leasing company in Russian arbitration courts and international commercial arbitration.
  • Representing a Cyprus bank in a dispute with clients in Russian state Arbitrazh courts.
  • Protecting the interests of a minority shareholder in a lawsuit challenging a surety agreement.
  • Representing the interests of the largest Russian insurance company in a corporate conflict with minority shareholders in Russian state Arbitrazh courts.
